Get Kids in the Kitchen During a Stay-cation
One of the best parts of having a stay-cation is having more time to spend together as a family. It also means lots of time you have to fill with fun activities! Preparing a meal together – from start to finish – is a fun and educational way to introduce kids to new foods and also spend quality time together!
Pasta is the perfect starter meal to get kids in the kitchen – it’s a healthy and delicious meal and has many simple steps that kids can handle. First, you can take them to the market to select ingredients, such as veggies with lots of color and interesting shapes. Think eggplant, peapods, asparagus or corn! Once home, you can work together to prep all your ingredients and set them out in little bowls for kid-friendly assembly. They can help sprinkle cheese or herbs, cut veggies with a child-safe knife, stir together vinaigrettes, and taste test a cooled piece of pasta. Best of all, pasta meals are so easy to customize so kids can make them their own. Let them choose which shape they want use or which veggies and/or protein they’d like to add. This way, kids can be proud of the meal and recipe they truly created themselves!
