U.S. News & World Report Names the Mediterranean Diet as the #1 Diet of 2019
As part of an ever-present initiative to help Americans achieve healthier lifestyles, U.S. News & World Report evaluated popular diets for 2019, and determined the Mediterranean Diet to be the #1 Best Diet Overall for the second year in a row. For this process, judges evaluated 41 diets and ranked them in nine categories such as Best for Weight Loss and Easiest to Follow. The Mediterranean Diet was also named #1 for Healthy Eating, Heart-Healthy and Plant-Based diets.
As demonstrated by these rankings, the Mediterranean Diet is an easy and healthy diet to incorporate into your lifestyle. The diet stems from a way of life for people in places like Greece, Italy and Spain. These cultures share similar principles when it comes to following a diet that is low in red meat, sugar and saturated fats. It is high in fresh produce, like vegetables, lean fish, and seafood and even has proven health benefits. Better brain health, lower BMI, and lower risk of heart disease are side effects of this nutritious way of eating combined with an active lifestyle.
Pasta is a common link in this diet, as grains are a priority food group. Grains provide vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants that accompany fresh fish and vegetables perfectly. Since it’s so versatile and affordable, pasta is simple to include into your own lifestyle, but if you need a little help starting out, check out the Pasta Fits Mediterranean Diet Weekly Meal Plan.
