How Pasta Fits into US News and World Report’s Top Diets of 2013
Every year US News and World Report gathers an extensive group of experts to evaluate the most popular diets in the United States. On this year’s list of the top diets, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet snagged the number one title, followed by the low-fat TLC (Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes Diet and tied for third were the Weight Watchers Diet and the Mediterranean Diet. What makes these diets special?
In addition to being safe and effective for weight loss, preventing and controlling diabetes and protecting against heart disease, they are all easy to follow, versatile and nutritious. Pasta and whole grains in particular, are emphasized in all of these diets. In fact, combined with wholesome ingredients like fresh vegetables, beans, nuts and lean meat, chicken or fish, pasta dishes can be one of the healthiest and most convenient meals to prepare.
